Sunday 2nd October - Sandy Colts 3  Flitwick Eagles 0 Man of the Match James Wear

Sandy Colts were our visitors on a very hot Sunday morning. 3-0 was the score line but that wasn't a true reflection of how the game panned out. The eagles in the first half certainly had more possession but it was Sandy who went 1-0 up with their very first attack. A through ball down the right gave their number 4 a run at goal and he finished it off very well smashing the ball into the back of the net. Flitwick then had Sandy pinned in their penalty area with numerous corners being banged right into the danger zone causing panic in the Sandy defence. From one of these corners the Eagles players had three chances to slot the ball home before the ball finally fell to Nathan inside the six yard box, who smashed the ball onto the bar and over for a goal kick.

The second goal came from the penalty spot. Initially the shot came in very high resulting in Shay jumping well and saving high above his head, but the ball dropped behind him resulting in an instinctive hand ball from one of the Eagles defenders to clear it off the line. The resulting spot kick was smashed to Shays right giving him no chance. Again the Eagles responded positively, still playing the ball around nicely. Greg and Corey linked well down the right hand side making good progress, in one move Greg fed the ball through to Corey just inside his own half who opened up like a greyhound and sped down the wing, Corey fended off a couple of strong tackles to get in the area and unleashed a right foot shot that went just wide of the right post.

The 2nd half saw Sandy have more of the possession and started to make chances, but the Eagles defence stood solid clearing the lines time after time with James Wear holding the defence together well. With all their possession Sandy scored their next goal from a poor goal kick and 3-0 it was and that’s how it remained.

Although the Eagles lost 3-0 there were some great positives to take out of this game, not once during the match did the team argue with each other or blame another Eagles player, the team continued to pass throughout the entire game and the team listened well to the instructions from the manager Dave  and the coach Bill.
