Match Report 1st October Flitwick Eagles GU11 Vs Stotfold GU11

A scorching start to October, a sunny morning saw Flitwick playing away to Stotfold. The girls started well, giving Stotfold no chance of getting past the defence, and just a few minutes into the game an excellent corner from Shannon was too much for the Stotfold defence, sneaking into the back of the net and putting Flitwick 1-0 up. There were some more good chances, including an excellent goal kick from Maisie reaching Shannon and almost bringing on a second goal, as well as some good runs from Emily. A powerful Stotfold goal kick ended up pulling the game back to 1-1, but Flitwick barely gave them a chance to shoot, with Drew and the defence stopping the ball each time and some great play from everyone. A diagonal cross into the area gave Stotfold their second goal. Eagles remain focussed, pushing on with the first half ending just before we can score again. Eagles 2 -1 down at half time.

We kicked off the second half, immediately putting pressure on Stotfold with some good runs from Becks and Alicia and accurate free kicks from Sarah that just needed to a touch from someone. A third Stotfold goal was overshadowed by an excellent long shot from Emily that brought the score to 3-2. A Flitwick penalty hit the post. Everyone put effort into the last five minutes which were tense with Eagles getting a few corners but the goals just didn’t follow. Even with some good opportunities, the whistle blew before we could equalise. We played with determination and came out of it with our heads held high. Eagles had 6 or 7 good chances on goal in the second half but just couldn’t get the ball in the back on the net.

Well done everyone.

Drew was awarded Player of the Game

Final Score 3-2 loss

Flitwick Eagles Vs Mid Beds Tigers Saturday 3rd May 2011

A bottom of the table clash was played at the rufus on a sunny but chilly tuesday evening.a strong turn out by the Eagles enabled the manager to shuffle his pack around.eagles started lively with Katie being a little live wire and opening up the tigers defence to create chances for the powerful Emily Kay and the goal hungry Alicia.with persistant pressure the  Eagles were bound to score, with good work from Emily Farr the ball broke to Katie who neatly played in Emily Kay,she surged forward and unleashed a goal bound shot that was neatly dummied by Alicia and fooling the tigers keeper 1-0 the Eagles.the Eagles defence looked solid with Millie Cook and Maizie Sherwood clearing their lines, and ronnie being effective between the sticks, the second goal had to come.with some beautiful football opening up the tigers alicia found herself some space only thing left was for the tigers keeper to get the ball from the back of the net,2-0 the eagles.now coasting and looking for a third we let the tgers pull one back just before half time 2-1

With the wind against us it was going to be a tense second half,it was hands to the pump stuff, charlotte and maisie ieles under constant pressre the inevatible happened 2-2.it took ten minutues for us to find ourselves again, with alicia now in goal keeping us in the game.ronnie broke out of defence to find the hard working emily kay,her through ball left katie out wide  with two tigers and the goalie to beat, clverly she used both feet and found herself in the box where she finished off a tricky dribble with a neat finish 3-2.the eagles held out with Emily Kay going close with a free kick.Maisie Isles won girl of the game, great to see Becky there supporting the girls, hope to see you back soon.

Final score 3:2 win.

Flitwick Eagles GU10 Vs Mid Beds Tigers. Saturday 19th March 2011

A glorious sunny morning was followed by a win by the mighty Eagles girls under 10’s. The game started with both teams smelling spring air and looking to kick start their season. Eagles had the better early chances with Emily Kay being kept out by a couple of good saves from the Tiger’s under pressure keeper. The Eagles looked solid in defence with Millie Cook, playing well in defence and mopping it all up, Becky and Alicia both pushing forward and knocking on the Tiger’s door, it seemed inevitable we would break the deadlock. With Ronnie keeping us in the game the ball was passed nicely between the two Maizie’s, a nice pass from Emily followed by a nice little flick by Alicia 1-0 to the Eagles. We held out to half time with some decisions not going our way.

Second half Alicia played in goal with Ronnie supporting Emily up front, an early chance for the Tiger’s was well saved by Alicia. A second goal was needed which came when a penalty was awarded. Emily Kay put her toe through the ball 2-0 the Eagles. You could hear the sigh of relief from the Eagles parents. With all the girls playing out of their skins Becky being played as sweeper by a very tactical manager. We played the game out with confidence and pride. Well done girls.

Alicia was awarded girl of the game.

Final score 2:0 win.

Dunstable Girls U11 5 v Flitwick Eagles Girls U11 612 November 2011    Creasy park Dunstable

A fine dry morning was followed by a fine win from the Eagles. Sarah started in goal for the first time in an Eagles shirt for a team that had been depleted from the ever increasing Saturday morning parties.  We took a little while to get into our stride and found ourselves a goal down to a defencive mix up, we were soon on the attack with Shannon making her now infamous touchline runs , Maizie isles was having a good game in midfield breaking up the play, we won ourselves a corner and with a inch perfect cross Emily kay lept like a salmon to cleverly chest the ball in, almost from the kick off we let in a soft second 2-1 Dunstable.

Alicia was now very lively in midfield and through her hard work Emily found herself on the edge of their box, she jinxed a couple of defenders and with what seemed like a toe punt managed to squeeze the ball in at the near post 2-2. Eagles were now pressing and Chelsea being a rock in defence we were playing some nice football, a sharp run by Alicia and a beautiful weighted pass by Emily we found ourselves going in to the break 3-2 up.

2nd Half.

Alice came on second half and was a workhorse in midfield, Emily made herself room in their area and riffled in her hat-trick,we let them back into the game again with a break away goal, it was going to be a very tense final 20 minutes, the best goal of the game came when Shannon was fed in by the very determind drew, her darting run down the right was volleyed in by the still goal hungry Emily to net her 14th of the season 6-3 eagles.  we were still pressing and got caught up field to allow them another soft goal 6-4,   Alice and Maisie were putting in some crunching tackles in the middle off the park but the bounce caught our defenders out and they sneaked another......  there was still 8 minutes to go!!!!!

Sarah eased the pressure with her much needed long goal kicks, Shannon went close when she blasted a shot outside the area towards the top corner the keeper could only parry it but the ball would just not drop for Maisie, Eagles held out quite comfortably in the end,   there was even a bit of time wasting by one of the eagles coaches when he let the ball slip through his hands, there’s reports that one of the dads let the ball run past when he could of quite easily stopped it with his foot!!!!!

At the end it was a very good all round performance which gained us a much needed WIN!!
